5 Simple Questions to Ask Before You Book Your First Outdoor Ad

December 15, 2025

A lot of business owners book their first outdoor ad the same way — they see an available board, like the price, and book it. Sometimes that works out fine. Often, a few simple questions beforehand would have gotten them a much better result for the same money. 1. Who actually passes this spot, and are they my customers? A busy road full of long-distance trucks isn't useful if you sell school uniforms. A spot near a school or a residential area might be quieter, but every single person passing is exactly who you want to reach. Traffic count matters less than the right traffic. 2. What's the one thing I want people to remember? Not five things — one. Your name, your product, your offer. Trying to fit everything onto one board usually means people remember nothing at all. Decide your one message before you even think about design. 3. How long am I keeping this message up? If you're booking for three months, don't put a "this week only" offer on it. Match your message to how long the board will actually be up, so it never looks outdated to someone driving past in month two. 4. Can people actually read it in the time they have? Stand where your future audience will stand, or drive past at the speed they'll be driving. If you can't read your own draft comfortably in that time, neither will they. 5. What happens after someone sees the ad? A phone number, a shop location, a simple way to reach you. An ad that gets attention but gives no next step is a missed chance. Always give people an easy way to act on what they just saw. None of these questions cost anything to ask, and every one of them can be the difference between an ad that quietly does its job and one that just sits there. Before you book your next spot, walk through these five — or better yet, ask us, and we'll walk through them with you.
